I apparently have food intolerances to spinach, iceburg lettuce (and many other lettuces as well), broccoli, etc. They usually aren’t digested, cause me diarrhea, and also make my chronic prostatitis much worse.

When I tested for allergies, I put broccoli down and it came up negative.

Is there a chance that my food allergies caused digestive problems resulting in my intolerance? If I stay off of my allergy-foods, is there a chance I can start to eat those intolerant veggies again?

I read one site (can’t recall which one) that stated many food intolerances are actually hidden allergies. Is there anything to this? I thought that an intolerance was just that you lacked an enzyme for digesting the substance.

Most of my intollerances developed relatively suddenly. I have a feeling that if I tested for them, they wouldn’t show up. I don’t have an immune (chemical) reaction to these foods, just a physical reaction because of injury to my intestines. Am I making sense? (I’m really tired and can’t express myself very well.)
When I stopped eating those foods, it’s like a fire which burned down. I could SOMETIMES eat those foods without problem. Now that this has been my life for about 4 yrs, I can actually eat whatever I want for a whole day without any problems, IF I return to my diet the following day. I’m getting better, which means I don’t have a TRUE allergy.

I’d been wondering about this too. I come up negative for food allergies but many foods cause bloating. Now, to just figure out which ones!

I think that when you see a typical allergist they test for anaphalactic and seasonal allergies. I have a lot of food intolerances which can make me very sick, but I don’t have any anaphalactic reactions. One test is an IGG and one is an IGE, I can’t remember which is which. They are both blood tests. I also know that over the past 4 years a few of my food issues have gotten a little better. I can now eat a tiny amout of soy, and an occasional food product with egg in it. But the dairy, sesame, and egg are just sucky. Plus if I am very careful I can tolerate eating more things occassionally, but if I splurge too much, BOOM I am really sick for days on end with migraines and vomiting non-stop. When I tast some foods I miss, it just makes me want more. It’s a bad spiral. Anyway, I don’t know of anyone who has shown reactions to foods by scratch test, unless they have a serious anaphalactic reaction. (Sorry about my spelling)
