Hey everyone This seems like a great website so I’m happy to be here. I have had bad GI problems for the past few years, constant canker sores in my mouth, persistant migranes/headaches, weight issues, etc. I have really really really strong food cravings, mostly to bread, sugar, cheese. Most days I feel pretty crummy. After seeing the doctor, we have agreed that doing an elimination diet would be best for me. I already know that dairy is an issue for me. When I was breastfeeding my youngest son I could not have ANY dairy or he would scream and scream and scream for hours. During that time the weight melted off and I felt awesome. When I weaned him at 15 months I started doing dairy again and it’s amazing how fast the weight came back on. I am now 4 lbs lighter than I was when I was 40 weeks pregnant! EEK! Anyways, the foods that I am cutting out (starting today) are all dairy, all wheat (not gluten), eggs, all citrus foods, and all alcohol. I am making Baked Oatmeal for breakfast using gluten free oats and I love smoothies so I don’t think I will have any problems making breakfasts, but I am really stumped on lunches! Dinners should be fairly easy because we usually have meat or beans with a couple of veggies. Any advice on lunches? |

Hi and welcome! Of your allergens we are only Dairy and Egg Free but were wheat free for a while too. Corn tortillas work well for wrap type sandwiches as does lettuce leaves. There is a great cook book http://www.sophiesafecooking.com/ that has some tasty baked goods (and meals), made top 8 free with oat flour (oats run through the blender or food processor) and other common grocery store ingredients. There is no recipe for bread/rolls though. :-( Tinkyada rice pasta, http://www.tinkyada.com/ is a tasty sub for wheat pasta. We thought it tasted the most like wheat pasta. That’s all I can remember off the top of my head. |

I’m new here and just starting to look around – thank you for the link to the Tinkyada rice pasta! A good pasta substitute is one thing I am always searching for and I’ll definitely try this one. I’m allergic to gluten, dairy, eggs, etc. And my husband sells food to Italian restaurants! I’m really good at making great tomato based sauces that are okay for me and often end up eating them like soup and staring bitterly over the table at my husband and he happily spins his noodles on a fork. I can’t wait to get some! Again, many thanks. |

If you like yogurt type things, the best tasting yogurt without any dairy (or soy for that matter) is “So Delicious” made by Turtle Mountain made with coconut milk. It is the best tasting alternative to yogurt, and my daughter who is 7 loves it too. And coconut milk is really good for you. You can find it at the natural and/or organic grocery stores. |
