I’m Alex Andreae, and am one of the co-founders of Cooking Allergy Free. I helped to start this site in early 2007 after my wife (my bio pic is a wedding photo from March 2008) Melissa was diagnosed with quite a few allergies. The feeling of helplessness while watching her try to cope, and the lack of other sites with the info we now host, was the reason we started Cooking Allergy Free with our good friend Will.
Between the 3 of us, we each had a piece of the puzzle to turn Cooking Allergy Free into what it is today. Melissa knows the pains of having allergies, I knew how hard it was to find information to help someone coping with them, and Will knew how to develop a website that could bring it all together.
While I don’t have allergies myself, I’ve found quite a few great recipes that are hosted here. Additionally, through trial, error, and lots of research, we’ve found out a lot of neat tips and tricks to make dealing with allergies easier. It isn’t fun, but it’s not as terrible as it first seems.
