Topic: Allergy Support Group / egg free Mayo? That’s a tough one! The egg-free mayonnaise that we use is “Nayonaise”, but it’s soy-based. So that’s a no-go. I did a quick search and found some alternatives, but I’m not sure how far you’re willing to go to make your own. If you do happen to try any in this link (cashew mayonnaise looks like the only soy and egg-free one there, but sounds very interesting), definitely let us know how it goes! |

Topic: New Allergy Requests / Corn and Corn Derivatives Just to elaborate a little on what Melissa said.. We don’t have the resources or intention of ever cataloging every brand of ingredient. In cases where it is a generic name (I’ll use Italian Dressing as an example), we do mark ingredients that may have additional allergens with a * in the ingredient listing in the recipe. This means that the ingredient may contain more allergens depending on brand selection or preparation. Of course, if any of the allergens that we do associate with it (peppers, vinegar, citrus, onion, garlic, pepper, dill for Italian Dressing) do conflict with your allergies, it’s marked with an exclamation point. We’ve never tried to promote Cooking Allergy Free as being flawless, and hope it’s never looked at that way. Certainly, if you see any specific ingredients that are not categorized with the correct allergens, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Additionally, if you have any recommendations on how to improve the ‘may contain additional allergens’ notice on ingredient listings in recipes or the ingredient page itself, we’d love to hear your comments! Thanks, |

Topic: Website Problems and Requests / Shopping List This was a great request, and something that we think others will definitely use too! We’re happy to say that we’ve got something to try out right now. The quantities are hard for us to do (we can’t just add the numbers together), so please let us know if you have any suggestions on how to make it easier to use or provide more/better information. Thanks again! |

Topic: Website Problems and Requests / Email to friends We agree that some of the recipes are so good here that sometimes you just have to spread the word. That’s why the ability to email friends is a the top of every recipe listing. Just click the link that says “Email recipe” (right next to the envelope in the top row), enter some information about who you want to send it too, and even attach a note to go along with it! We hope this helps, and we’ll try to make those links stand out more in the future. As always, if you have any more suggestions on how to improve this feature, or any other requests, always feel free to let us know! Alex |

Topic: Website Problems and Requests / Sort by Allergy Risk Well, that took more effort than we expected, but it’s implemented now :) At the top of recipe listings there is now a checkbox which allows you to sort according to your allergen risks. Of course you need to be logged in to use it (so we know your allergies). Please let us know if you have any issues or see any odd behavior with the different sorting options (name, date, allergy risk). We tested it thoroughly, but there are gremlins that have gotten in in the past…. Thanks again for the suggestion, and we hope it helps you make the most of Cooking Allergy Free! Alex |

Topic: Website Problems and Requests / Sort by Allergy Risk The ability to sort by name or date is available by clicking on the “Name” and “Last Updated” column names at the top when listing recipes. However, the recipes will still be sorted overall by the number of bad allergens in them. We can definitely look into adding an option to remove sorting by allergy risk altogether so that the results are in alphabetical (or date) order for easier perusal. Thanks for the suggestion! |

Topic: New Allergy Requests / Allergy Request Guidelines Please use the following guidelines to try to submit new allergens: 1) This category is intended for you to request a new Allergen to be added to our site content. Please add any posts with a different topic to one of the other appropriate categories. We may move your topic to another category if it is misplaced. 2) Look through the posts to see if your request has already been made. If so, post a reply to that topic. Some allergens take a long time to research and update the ingredients to link to them. More interest in certain requests allow us to set some priorities on what to work on next. 3) If your request hasn’t already been made, create a new one. Please be as specific as possible to the allergy or group of ingredients (meats, dairy, etc). If you request is not due to an allergy, but instead to a medical condition or other preference, let us know! |
