Topic: Looking for Recipe / allergic to cows milk and eggs

I forgot to mention goats milk. My son is allergic to cows milk but not goats milk Goats milk has different proteins that cows milk.
Although, my son just figured out that he is having problems with vitamin D, so now he has to cut out all things with added vitamin D, so most store-bought “milks” are out.

You are truly blessed if those are the only 2 things your sons are allergic too. You should be able to use coconut milk in some recipes, which is found in the chinese food section.
My son can eat egg whites and I’m going to try egg whites and coconut milk in my pumpkin pie this year.
Here are some suggestions for the eggs:

banana – substitute 1/2 mashed ripe banana plus 1/2 tsp. baking powder for each egg.

gelatin – To replace 1 egg: dissolve 1 TBLS. unflavored gelatin in 1 TBLS. of cold water, then add 2 TBLS. boiling water. Beat vigorously until frothy.

silken tofu – substitute 1/4 cup tofu for each egg.

1 egg = 2 TBLS. liquid + 2 TBLS. flour + 1/2 TBLS. shortening + 1/2 tsp. baking powder

cornstarch – substitute 1 TBLS. cornstarch + 3 TBLS. water for each egg call for.

fruit-based fat substitute – substitute 2 TBLS. fat substitute for each egg called for in recipe.

Topic: Allergy Support Group / everything's bothering me!

The ordinary blood test does not tell the whole story. I am posting a few addresses so you can read up on what I’m talking about and it gives you what kind of vitamin D tests should be run. If you have time, read through the site so you understand what my son is being treated for. It’s long and “technical”

Topic: New Allergy Requests / separate egg whites and egg yolks

My son has to cut Vitamin D out of his diet right now, so I was wondering if you could separate egg yolks from egg whites in the allergen list.

I cannot tell you all of the technical things because only he can explain that, but he breaks out in acne-like bumps everywhere the sun hits. If he gets his hair cut, the bumps are on his head too. He feels really bad if he has to be out in the sun too long. Numerous times he went to the ER with chest pains and severe abdominal pain.
He has multiple food allergies that he never had as a child (many of them associated with Vitamin D-rich foods and enriched foods). His thyroid was affected and he is now on thyroid meds.. He had to take DHEA for adrenal fatigue for awhile, but is no longer on that.
For about a year, he just followed the diet of cutting out his food allergies, it helped, but it never seemed to inprove more than a little bit. That is because we didn’t know about the Vitamin D in fish, egg yolks, pork, and fortified products, which he ate a lot of.
He kept looking on the internet trying to find something that covered all of his symptoms. He finally found the Marshall Protocal site and it made sense, so he had his doctor do the Vitamin D tests.
Right now, he has cut out all Vitamin D that is possible and is doing the treatment mentioned in the Marhall Protocol. His skin condition is clearing up. The pills that he is on now will take a long time, but at least he sees some improvement.
Our hope is one day that his food allergies will improve to the point that he can start eating things again. It’s hard on someone his age not to be able to eat at a restaurant or accept dinner invitations.

Dairy and sunlight could be from Vitamin D overload/toxicity.. My son is being treated for that right now
I guess cosmetics could have something in it related to vitamin D. I don’t know about the smells.
Google “Marshall Protocol”

Topic: Allergy Support Group / College?! =/

My son had the skin prick test and he came back allergic to “everything” except 3 things that they tested for. Both food and other allergens.
He then took the IgG Standard Food Sensitivity Assay test and it narrowed it down a little bit. That’s a blood test that tests the antibodies to the food allergens in your blood. The blood test is not 100% accurate, but it really helped my son. I mean, he had to eat something and found out that he could eat more than he thought he could!!
Another thing, don’t forget to check ingredients in other things. You would be surprised at what they put in soaps and other lotions. My son found out that he was using a soap that had a oil that he was allergic too.

Wow Kelly, that’s quite a list. How were you tested for these food allergies? Skin prick or blood test?

Topic: Allergy Support Group / pancreatitus

My husband had this years ago and his was brought on by stress and poor diet. With him, he had to stay away from carbohydrates until it passed. Try doing a strict diet for diabetes.
If that doesn’t work, have yourself tested for food allergies. Food allergies can mess with various organs too. My son thought he had a thyroid problem, but is finding out it was caused by his food allergies.

Topic: Allergy Support Group / eating out

I would suggest that you take something from home. You have to remember that the kitchen in anykind of eating establisment is not always clean and there can be cross-contamination. Just because they say there is no way that the allergen is in the food, it can get “on” the food from other sources.

Topic: Allergy Support Group / newbie with lots of allergies

My son had a similar thing happen to him all of a sudden when he was around 26 years old. On his first trip to the doctor, the doctor discovered thyroid antibodies and adrenal fatigue. For 2 years, he’s had test after test done and finally found out it was probably food allergies, although he still doesn’t know what triggered it.
He did the standard skin-prick test and was allergic to all but 3 things tested for. He was put on the allergy drops but after months of taking them, he didn’t feel like they were helping him, so he went a step further and had the IgG Standard Food Sensitivity Assay. It’s a blood test that measures antibodies to certain foods tested. He was able to narrow things down a little bit and the things he tested positive for were a surprise. He’s now able to avoid those things specifically.
He also had the Gluten Antibody Assay and the C. albicans Immuno Assay done, which were both negative.

Topic: Allergy Support Group / Nutritional Yeast

I’ve read where nutritional yeast in not an active yeast and shouldn’t hurt someone who is allergic to brewer’s and bakers yeast, but I’ve also read where it would.

Does anyone know for sure which way it right?

Topic: Allergy Support Group / newly diagnosed - tons of allergies

My son feels better after changing his diet, so I don’t know if feeling bad is normal or not….and he’s not pregnant. :D
The only thing I can suggest is to make sure that your allergens are not disguised under different names in the ingredient lists. It can be so confusing.
Something else you may want to look into is MSG. It’s in “everything” and it can cause a lot of problems. Do a search for hidden names for MSG.

Topic: Allergy Support Group / newly diagnosed - tons of allergies

What kind of allergy tests did you have done? My son had the skin-prick test done and was told that he was allergic to “everything” except 3 things. He just didn’t believer he was allergic to that many things, so he went a step further and had the blood tests taken where the antibodies to offending foods were checked for, and found out he wasn’t actually allergic to everything that the skin-prick test showed. Also, he is allergic to cows milk and not goats milk or cows-milk hard cheese, so that helps me alot. I guess the whey part of the milk is what he is most allergic to.
You have to think about what you can have, as opposed to what you cannot have and maybe look into a the blood test to narrow things down a little bit. Some people don’t believer that this blood dtest is accurate, but it sure has helped my son.

Topic: Website Problems and Requests / Products Review Section

I would like to see a procucts review section of some sort to help us sort though the ingredient lists on products. For instance, if someone finds a certain product that they like and it works with their particular allergy, they can post it and the ingredients list, and then the product is listed on your site. We can click on “margarine” and we see what particular margarine would be safe for us.
It’s such a daunting task going to a grocery store for the first time and having to look at every ingredients list to try and find one that woeks for us. Having a place to start with here, would be wonderful.
Examples:
1. My son is allergic to canola oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil and cows milk. So far I have found one margarine that seems to be ok for him, but it took a long time, and a number of headaches having to read that fine print, finding it.
2. Soy milk has milk products in it. Some people wouldn’t know that if they didn’t look.

Topic: Allergy Support Group / Question about yeast

We’re really not sure how sensitive he is. He’s been sick for about 2 years (he’s 27) and he has had so many tests done in the past 2 years. He had the skin prick test done last year and came back that he was allergic to “everything” except 3 things. Recently he had the Immuno 1 IgG food sensitivity test done. It came back that he was highly allergic to brewers and bakers yeast, cow’s milk and other things…which adds up because we thought he had Candida A., but the tests did not show that he had that.
He is not, however, gluten intolerant.

My son is allergic to brewers and bakers yeast. Is the sourdough starter made without added yeast, the same as brewers yeast and/or bakers yeast?

Topic: Looking for Recipe / Allergy to Whey

Do you know if your son is also allergic to goats milk? My son is allergic to cow’s milk, but is not allergic to goat’s milk.
You could also try rice milk, one of the nut milks, soy milk, in place of milk in recipes. Make sure you read all ingredients lists and make sure you know the terminology.
Whey is a real problem. It is in so many things. I did find a soybean margarine that appears not to have whey in it. It’s called Willow Run from Shedd’s.
Eggs, I cannot help you with that one. Go to a health food store and see if they have something as a egg substitute that is diary-free. Again, read ingredients cause many egg substitutes have some kind of milk in them. You can also google “egg substitutes” and come up with some ideas.
As to recipes…once you find products to substitute for milk, eggs, whey, then you can use normal recipes.
I know what you are going through. It’s terribly hard to cook with different ingredients that you aren’t used to using. I spend hours in a grocery store reading ingredient lists.

Topic: New Allergy Requests / Amaranth, Canola, Radish,....

My son had a Immuno 1 blood test done and some of his allergies are not listed on your lists.

The foods not listed are:
Amaranth (have no idea what this is)
Rape Seed (Canola)
Kidney beans (specifically)
Lima beans (specifically)
Radish

I know I can look on the ingredients list with the beans, but I’m not sure what other products they may be added to as a protein and not listed by name.
