Topic: Allergy Support Group / numerous allergies..need suggestions

I did some searching and found an article that recommends a 50/50 mix of oat flour and barley flour. Here’s a link to the article, with other good info you might try:

Topic: Allergy Support Group / New too

I thought finding info about Mustard Allergy was tough… at least I found a good list of related foods. I’ve searched for info on your allergies and I’m not finding much. That doesn’t mean there isn’t more out there… we just haven’t found it, yet.

I did found this list of Barley-related foods, on this very website, that may cause an allergic reaction – http://www.cookingallergyfree.com/allergens/allergen_listing/barley_allergy

Barley – annual cereal grain; in beer, ale and whiskey and considered identical to wheat
Barley flour – considered identical to wheat flour
Barley malt – a sweetener produced from sprouted barley; dark, brown, thick and sticky
Beer – hops is used as flavoring and stability agent in beer
Beer vinegar – vinegar made from beer that is made in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands; often described as having a malty taste
Malt – a sweetener produced from sprouted barley; dark, brown, thick and sticky
Malt vinegar – vinegar made from malting barley; an ale is then brewed from this and allowed to turn into vinegar and aged
Whiskey – distilled from fermented grain mash and aged in oak casks, distilled from corn, rye, or wheat
Worcestershire sauce – widely used fermented liquid condiment originally manufactured by Lea & Perrins; a flavoring used in many dishes, especially with meat; made with malt vinegar, molasses, sugar, salt, anchovies, tamarind, onion, garlic, spices and flavoring

Topic: Allergy Support Group / giving up restraunts?

That Mayo Clinic Chef Card is gone. CNN had it but they’ve removed it, too. Here’s the only link to it that I can find: http://stb.msn.com/i/9B/1349488E4239AE81D9273683F2B3D.pdf

Topic: Allergy Support Group / Overweight due to allergies

I gained 30 pounds in less than a year and didn’t know why. I had no idea that food allergies could cause weight gain! Now, I’m eating a lot less, because of the allergies… but I’m not losing weight! My next doctor visit will be to check my thyroid antibodies, since my thyroid always comes up in the normal range.

After having a reaction to medication, the food allergies became life-threatening (I didn’t even know I had them, because the symptoms were all gastrointestinal). I can never allow those foods back into my life. My biggest problem is Mustard allergy, because it’s related to Rapeseed, which is what Canola Oil is made of. Food manufacturers and restaurants don’t have to list out which spices they use, os if it says “spices” I can’t eat it. That alone has ruled out 90% of all prepackaged and restaurant food for me. Canola Oil is also in nearly everything! So, there’s no going back. I just want to get this weight back off!
