Topic: Allergy Support Group / *update* 4 year old and 2 year old with lots of food allergies! I wish I could add some information that would help the moms of the newly diagnosed babies. However, I have a 27 month old who also has life threatening allergies to milk, eggs, peanut, tree nuts and severe allergies to sesame and soy. It helps to know I’m not alone, but it is scary and I do feel helpless most of the time. I recently signed up a team to walk in the the FAAN allergy walk this fall – the money goes to research and education (most being done at Mt. Sinai and Duke). Check out that website and local support groups, it helps to find other people in the same boat. Btw – my problem is more my side of the family then the in-laws. People (family included) just don’t “get it” They love him, but they don’t get it because they don’t live it every second of every day. You’ll eventually get to a point when you won’t be hurt that they don’t get it and just accept that you are going to have to be strong and even hurt your family’s feelings a little (when you don’t trust them to babysit, despite their assurances that they can handle it). Good luck. I am there with you. It really stinks but talking helps! |

Topic: Allergy Support Group / New here--kids with allergies and attitudes! Hi there. I have the same stresses. My son is 27 months old and is severely allergic to Milk (Dairy), Eggs, Soy, Peanut, Tree Nuts and Sesame. I also have a 3 year old son in the house who used to love eating yogurt before we found it was life threatening to our little one. I am also bored of the same organic chicken hot dogs and organic turkey meat for EVERY MEAL. He is now getting bored or just refusing to eat a lot of vegetables that he used to eat (as most 2 year olds do). I am looking for recipes that this 2 year old can and WILL eat – too many recipes with onions and garlic – yummy for me, but he will not eat! On another note, his soy allergy is lessening (according to his most recent blood test). We tried soy yogurt (which is pasteurized) and he was okay. However, then we tried Soy Garden Margarine – which is expeller pressed soy – and he got hives and started to swell up right away (in just two or three minutes). Anyone know the difference? Can he eat some soy but not others? |

Topic: Allergy Support Group / Coping with Multiple Food Allergies To the lady whose husband was recently diagnosed (and anyone else who hasn’t heard of this brand…) Cherrybrook Kitchen Mixes are great for all kinds of allergies. The whole grain pancake mix is peanut, dairy, egg and nut free. My son who is allergic to dairy, egg, soy, nut, peanut, and sesame can eat these as well as their other baking products. They are yummy and sweet – not whole grain tasting – you won’t be missing the regular old pancakes! (or cookies, or cake, etc.) Buy it at Wholefoods or check with your local market (or maybe on line?) Also, there is a brand called “Orgran” its a company from Australia that is for gluten free diets (which we don’t follow) but they have all sorts of great food products on Amazon.com – including an Egg Replacer for baking. |
