Topic: Allergy Support Group / Tomato Allergy?

Tomato allergy runs in my family. ((Incidently we also seem to have an allergy to bandages that contain adhesive. I am uncertain exactly what the culprit is- maybe laytex.))

For ‘pasta sauce’ I use olive oil (a bunch) and add lots of veggies chopped up. All together it makes a great sauce! It can also be used with meats or over bread/crust. If ordering italian style you can often get a white or pesto base in leu of tomato base. Also I specify no catsup anytime ordering out. Avacado slices can be a yummy substitute to guacamole when an eatery has used tomato in the guac.

Where it can be difficult is with children in group settings. Pizza party can be not so fun unless a ‘no sauce pizza’ is ordered. I found that when my child spoke up often about the allergy most people were considerate. I did however run into issues with preschool. No one wants to be different or told they cant have a favorite food. My child would grab off others plates to have that craved item. It also got all over everything and everyone. I finally withdrew the child as the cross contamination was unavoidable in that school.
